SMODO is an innovative stop-motion technology which connects the classic puppet animation with the newest ways of portraying movements. Using SMODO, instead of with a puppet, the animator works with its armature equipped in colourful markers. A special marker tracking system brings the armature pose into a 3D software, in which the armature is merged with a digital puppet model. In effect, on the computer screen the animation artist can see the whole puppet, just like in classic animation. SMODO technology guarantees cost-reduction, post-production stage shortening, and simplifying the work on the filmset. SMODO is also an innovative education tool. The technology idea originated with Grzegorz Wacławek, who is also responsible for it’s further development, together with Pelican Capture Sp. Z.o.o (Limited Liability Company).

MOMSI is a mobile app dedicated for the youngest kids in preschool age (3-6). The app gives access to animations and songs in english, all high quality content in graphic design, music and text. “Astra” (directed by Michał Łubiński) – a short animation targeted on young audiences over the age of 12, realized with the use of the traditional puppet technique and supplemented with computer effects. This is a universal story about losing a loved one and about how important imagination is for children going through a rough patch. The film, currently in the developmental phase, won the first prize during the pitching segment at the Animarkt Stop Motion Forum 2018. Momakin will provide support on the marketing and distribution ends of the project, while the Center for Audiovisual Technology in Wrocław will be the lead producer.
“Inzomnia” (directed by Luis Tellez) – the first Mexican feature film using the puppet animation technique. A phantasy movie, it tells the story of a girl who sets out on a journey to save her town and her loved ones and meets mythical creatures and magic characters on her way. As a project partner, Momakin coordinates the comprehensive efforts of the Polish makers of animated puppets who are developing most of the leading and supporting characters for the film. Additionally, the company is involved in project development and is an active intermediary in securing partners and co-producers. The lead producer is Inzomnia Animación (MX).
“Even Mice Belong in Heaven” (directed by Denisa Grimmova and Jan Bubenicek) – a feature film targeted on young audiences which combines puppet and 3D animation techniques. A tale of a mouse and a fox going to the animals’ paradise, it familiarizes young viewers with the notion of passing, and at the same time is a story of hope, the power of friendship, and courage. In this Czech-Polish-French-Slovak co-production, Momakin is responsible for coordinating the work of the Polish expert artists who create the animated puppets. The lead producer of the film is Fresh Films (CZ), and the Polish co-producer is Animoon.

From among the most recently completed projects, currently in distribution is the “Kids of Courage” series.
“Kids of Courage” (directed by Matthias Zirzow) – a fictionalized documentary for young audiences, combining live-action shots with actors, archival footage, and special effects on miniature models. The series depicts events of World War 2 as seen by children from various European countries, and is based on authentic childhood diaries and biographies from the period of 1938-1945. Since its release, the film has received many prestigious awards, including the best documentary program for children award at the GOLDENER SPATZ German Festival of Children’s Media, a Silver Valkyrie at the Festival of Historical and War Films in Kętrzyn, and a White Elephant for the best television production of the year for child audiences. PROJECTS

Our project with funding from the EEA Funds

We are creating a National Strategy for the Development of Education for the Film Animation and Special Effects Industries

enrollcollapse

We know very well how big the potential lies in this sector. Its development is often hindered by the lack of practical professional and business skills, important from the point of view of entrepreneurs in this industry. Therefore, as part of the Education Programme of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism for 2014-2021 (2nd call, component III), we are working on the National Strategy for the Development of Industry Education for the Film Animation and Special Effects Industries, which was initited by MOMAKIN. The program operator is the Foundation for the Development of the Education System.

It will be the first document of this type in Poland, thanks to which an objective, comprehensive and in-depth assessment of the actual state of vocational education in the film animation and special effects industries will be carried out.

The main goal is to develop and expand the knowledge and practical skills of employees in the film animation and special effects industries in Poland, by improving the quality and degree of adjustment of vocational education to the current needs of the industry. Development conditions in terms of education, vision, as well as strategic and operational goals will be determined, and above all, directions and guidelines for activities ensuring the professional development of employees in this industry (current and future) will be indicated in such a way that their professional skills respond to real and current labor market needs. The strategy is also to indicate the benefits of dual education, including the active participation of employers, i.e. animation studies in vocational education and their role in building and developing human potential.

The initiator of the project is MOMAKIN. The partners of the project are the University of Lodz – Faculty of Philology and the Department of Film and Audiovisual Media, as well as the Association of Polish Animation Producers (SPPA) and Trollfilm AS.

Prezentacja polskiej branży animacji na Festiwalu Annecy i Targach MIFA

W tym roku SPPA, znacznie rozszerzyło swój profil działania podczas Festiwalu Annecy w związku z jubileuszem 70-lecia Polskiej Animacji

enrollcollapse

Podczas koktailu w nieoficjalnej atmosferze, kontynuowano rozmowy w sprawie współpracy z partnerami polskich studiów animacji.

Wydawnictwa, trailer

Na festiwal i targi przygotowano dwie publikacje. Ulotka prezentowała polskie studia animacji, firmy w konkursie. Biuletyn SPPA to pełna, szeroka informacja o najważniejszych polskich studiach animacji.
